A signature alone does not establish authenticity or value. The entire piece must be considered.
Age and Period

An exceptional Art Deco ring, for example, may have collector or resale interest that an ordinary piece of similar age does not.

Why Antique Jewelry Shouldn't Automatically Be Sold for Scrap
This is one of the most important things to understand when selling older jewelry.
A gold buyer can determine the approximate metal content of a piece very quickly. But metal value isn't necessarily jewelry value.
Imagine two rings containing approximately the same amount of 18K gold.
One is an ordinary modern ring. The other is an original signed vintage piece containing an old-cut natural diamond.
Melting both pieces simply because they contain the same amount of gold would ignore much of what could make the second ring valuable.

Selling Inherited Vintage & Antique Jewelry
